The National Front’s strength makes French politics a three-way affair (The Economist)

Sometimes small elections are markers of major political change. France’s latest vote may well turn out to be just such an election. On the face of it, the outcome will be a straightforward victory for the centre-right, led by Nicolas Sarkozy, a former president. In reality, it marks a shift in France from alternating two-party politics to a more fluid tripartite system. President elections in France - 2012

The presidential election in France in 2012 were held on April 22 (first round) and May 6 (second round). They became the tenth presidential election of the Fifth Republic. In the election he was elected for five years by the next president of the Fifth Republic. Party primary to nominate candidates held in France from January to October 2011.
